Dalia (@d_asterra) submitted her first marketing plan when she was 8 years old, managed a non-profit event at 12, and led a team of marketers in one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies at 24. She pursues the synergy between creativity and engineered execution. A Systems Engineering student, Dalia earned her Honours Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Business & Economics Minor. She has held roles in Client Services, Marketing and Sales. Today, as an Entrepreneur, her goal is to bridge technology with ideas. She has founded iBuzzMedia and realSociable.com. While she is trained to design and develop complex concepts and also translate technology into clear and marketable communications, her greatest strength lies in her ability to synthesize ideas, tell a story, and spark the power and imagination of those who surround her. Dalia was born in Kuwait, lived in Spain, travelled around the world and has now settled in Toronto.

Whether you are a stock broker, scientist, insurance agent or lawyer, it is easy to get caught up in all the technical jargon. This talk will go through some of the common presentation pitfalls that can plague technically-oriented people.

David (@davidfung2) has been working in the technology industry for 8 years, including client support, professional services and most recently, technical sales. After completing his Master of Science degree in computational chemistry, it was in the software industry where he realized his passion for developing business relationships and understanding technology. David currently works as a Sales Engineer at Ektron, a global web solutions company specializing in web content management, social media and marketing optimization. As a significant contributor, he has been excited to be part of Ektron’s rapid growth in Canada and is looking forward to the challenges and new heights as the company continues to reach new markets.

Presenting Your (Business) Case

Have you ever had to make a case for something and wondered “how do I do this?” Making the case for something is a task we all eventually face, but often we wonder how to do it right and make it count. This presentation will review the key parts of making a case, using the structure provided in business cases, and discuss how to make your presentation accessible and engaging to any audience.

Christian (@idicula) is an MBA 2010 student at the Schulich School of Business focusing in finance and economics. He was most recently a Summer Associate at UBS Securities and prior to entering the MBA program he worked as an Account Manager and Account Planner at Critical Mass, working on Mercedes-Benz, Dell, Citi, and AT&T Wireless. He served as a campaign strategist for the Don Iveson for Ward 5 (City of Edmonton) campaign in 2007 and in 2008 presented a session titled “Digital Conversations: Using Digital Technologies to Reach and Engage Citizens” at the Alberta Public Service Policy Matters conference. Christian is also co-founder of Humanity Calls, an innovative online donation platform designed to harness crowdsourcing and help worthy global causes in their fundraising efforts.

Heather (@heatherleson) is a Communications Lead for an Internet company (Tucows Inc.). With 10 years Internet experience and a strong library background, she has the unique ability to bridge communications and technology. Using online and often open source/social media tools (e.g. blogs, wordpress, wiki, irc, twitter), Heather works within technical teams to communicate, coordinate and project manage technical incidents. In her spare time, she is a co-organizer of the Toronto Girl Geek Dinner, a volunteer coordinator for Podcamp Toronto and the CrisisCamp City Coordinator- Toronto and CrisisCommons Liasion for Canada. Video and Mobile are the future of technology. She will be presenting Mis-takes in Video for your entertainment.
